Welcome

St Mary's Hall was one of England's oldest schools for girls, founded in 1836 by the Revd. Henry Venn Elliott for the "daughters of poor clergy" in Brighton, Sussex (latterly East Sussex).

As at 2022 the main school buildings and Elliott House house various departments of the Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. The Junior School accommodates the Brighton College Pre-Preparatory Dept. The swimming pool is Brighton Swimming Centre.

St Mary’s Hall Association, (SMHA), formed from St Mary’s Hall Old Girls and former staff, created what is now this website in 2009 when the School sadly closed. The website is now a privately managed online archive, passed on by the SMHA Management Team on 31st December 2022. You are warmly invited to explore it.
